When driving on I-84 in Idaho, most of the scenery is high desert, sage brush and rolling hills for mile after mile. One might wonder at the signs for scenic destinations near Twin Falls, Idaho–an apparent flat valley with surrounding mountains in the far distance; certainly not showing any promise of a scenic waterfall worth seeing. In fact, one might doubt the existence of any water at all; however, exiting the freeway immediately demonstrates otherwise as bridges span a deep volcanic chasm carved by the Snake River, with impressive drops in the riverbed, causing the Shoshone Falls and their spectacular Niagra-like vistas.
Life is often like that..some events are disappointing: a job loss, relocation, a death, a divorce, debt, fear, depression, betrayal, illness…and the list goes on. The future might look like a bleak desert with nothing desirable on the horizon, but, as with the appearance of the falls, something good and even wonderful can turn anxious times into blessed times.
Like the road signs directing us to the unseen falls, God’s promises remind us that trials will be temporary, and will lead to an unspeakable glory in God’s time.
